The A.H.Riise Navy Strength Rum is so strong that it would appeal to seasoned sailors – that could have been the idea behind the development of A. H. Riise’s high-quality Overproof Rum. In fact, the rum has a greatly increased alcohol content of 55 percent vol., but it does not push as sharply into the foreground as one might think. In contrast to other rums from the house, the A. H. Riise Royal Danish Navy rum is not fruity. On the other hand, it is very strong and spicy, with very nice notes of liquorice, anise and exotic spices. In addition, there are nuances of coffee, caramel and wood. The only fruit is a hint of orange peel and bergamot.
The A.H.Riise Navy Strength is a very original pleasure that illustrates to connoisseurs the range that the spirit rum can have. The home of this rum is the Caribbean island of St. Thomas, which is now part of the American Virgin Islands, but was a Danish colony at the time of the distillery’s founding. The young Danish pharmacist A. H. Riise emigrated to this in the 19th century. In addition to his actual profession, he traveled to various Caribbean islands and finally dedicated himself to the production of rum. He would not have been aware at the time that he was laying the foundation for a company that would continue to exist after more than 175 years. Nevertheless, the A. H. Riise distillery has managed to survive the centuries and to produce products that inspire true connoisseurs. The rum A. H. Riise Royal Danish Navy Strength is definitely one of them.
What does AH Riise Danish Navy rum taste like?
In the aroma, the rum has some spice and strong notes of anise and liquorice. As well as exotic spices, caramel, wood and a hint of orange peel. The AH Riise Danish Navy Rum is made from rum distillates of the “Plummer and Vedderburn” type that are up to 20 years old. Distilled in the pot still process with 65% vol. and not filtered, the rum is stored. AH Riise’s Danish Navy Rum is dark and has a long, soft finish, with a sweet aftertaste. The 55% ABV gives the 700 ml. bottle the perfect balance. The slender long bottle looks very modern and the price is justified for the long maturation. This makes the AH Riise Royal Danish Navy Rum more of a luxury as an overproof rum. This Overproof Rum can also be drunk pure without hesitation. Other well-known overproof rums are the Appleton Overproof, Plantation Dark Overproof and Smith and Cross Traditional Jamaica Overproof Rum.
